Considerations in Clinical Nursing Research


Abstract
This article begins with the philosophy of nursing science. Nursing science denotes the art and the science in its philosophic value to explain and investigate dynamic, complicated, live human phenomena. Clinical nursing research needs to study these phenomena in the balance between art and science.
The first of this article is about what the clinical research and how to do it. The internal validity and external validity were addressed in the process of developing the research from general question to make solid conclusion with the research results. The second is divided into several parts, which should be concerned in conducting the clinical nursing research as a means of nursing science. These are as follows: research question, literature review, research sample (population, samples, criterion for sampling, ethical issues for sampling), design of the research (design, random assignment, blinding, statistical consideration (hypotheses, type I & II errors, effect size, sample size and power), interpretation of the result.
This article concludes the clinical nursing research process should represent the philosophical nature of nursing science: art and science. And, because most research generate more questions than they be answered, the clinical nursing research keeps in carrying out in a field of human society on and on.
